So I realize I’m a little late in releasing my review of my week 3 choice but I was waiting until I saw Star Trek again in 3D this time, before I chose to report.

Let me start off by saying I’ve never seen any of the original Star Trek series or movies despite my deep love of sci-fi. I’m not sure why I never got into it but when I found out JJ Abrams was revamping the original Star Trek I got excited to finally give this beloved treasure a try. I LOVED the first movie!! It’s now one of my all time favorites and I couldn’t tell you how many times I have seen it. For a while there, it was on Netflix and I used to go asleep to the sounds of the Enterprise fighting off those pesky Romulans.

Naturally nowadays when something is a success, they make another one, and again I was ecstatic for the sequel Into Darkness. I showed up at the theater alone and was waiting my turn in line to enter when I received a phone call from a friend who wanted to join. I viewed this movie in one of the largest screens in Arizona, the Cine Capri. I even got to hear their new surround system complete with speakers on the ceiling (yes the sound is now actually all around you).

Just like the first, this movie starts with action right off the bat and continues it throughout the movie. It definitely made me laugh and cry, which isn’t that hard to do. I thought the first one as a really stunning and very pretty movie. And even though the visual effects are still beyond fantastic, this one I feel lacked some of that luster and beauty that I so admired. Spock’s Vulcan-ness and his inability to understand sarcasm or anything illogical are what make him one of my favorite characters in this new series. That and come on…in a weird way he’s really good looking. The 3D was very well done and did not cause any headaches. In fact, I think the extra dimension added to the movie and made it more visually stunning. The actors chosen for this movie couldn’t have been chosen any better, they fall right into character and really make me believe. The characters continue to grow and learn as one “hardship” after another repeatedly slam into them.

So in conclusion, I could go on and on about how much I love this movie and what makes it great. If you’re a Star Trek fan then I’m sure you’ve already seen it, if you’re not a fan you should still this movie! Maybe watch the first one…then WATCH THIS MOVIE!!! I promise it has something for everyone and it won’t disappoint.

MY RATING: 5 out of 5
